Just a quick note to record that I moved another dead badger off the road this morning. This one was a fully grown female (I’m getting better at sexing them!) on the road about a quarter of a mile from my usual woods. I think it is from the next sett along from the Pine Tree sett, the location of which is near the spot.

Thats frustrating. The so called neccessary evil that is the automobile. Indiscriminate culling agent that it is.
Last year an erythristic boar cub was born at one of my favourite setts. That was unrecorded for this county. I kept it quiet to all but a few individuals and managed a few photos.
This year on my first spring visit he appeared absent, then on my second trip I caught him out, at an outlier, living alone and managed to get some video but it was very poorlight. A few days later I received a phone call to say that a ‘brown’ badger had been killed on a lane less than 1/4 of a mile from the Sett. Somebody made off with the body!
Subsequent visits proved it to be him. Such a waste.
Two weeks ago I received another call and found a young sow had been killed on a road above another Sett. This contained a triple of Boar,Sow and cub. Its pretty much landlocked now too having been developed with roads and new luxury houses. Subsequent Visits there proved the sow absent. I just hope a wandering young female discovers this little crew and keeps it active.
It still stuns me how many RTCs there are for all species each year.
Hope the Clan at the Sett you speak of, has enough supporting individuals and recruitment.
