The BBC Countryfile Magazine has just published its list of the top 50 British wildlife websites and I’m pleased to say that they’ve selected Tales from the Wood as one of the top 10 mammal websites.
Blimey. I don’t know what to say. This is all very unexpected. I’m just a (very) amateur naturalist.
I’m kind of blushing here, to tell you the truth…
Anyway, check out the whole list here BBC Countryfile Magazine Top 50 British Wildlife Websites
Thanks guys!
no less than you you deserve…
Congrats! Well deserved! I hope it’ll push even more visitors your way.
Totally agree – well done, well deserved. I see a career for you somewhere between David Attenborough and Kate Humble. 🙂
[…] (forgive the pun) he’s pretty excited about it, as you can see on his latest post. And so he should be. I anticipate that his stats will shoot up on the back of the publicity, and […]
Don’t underestimate yourself. Its well deserved and speaks volumes with it being a species specific website too.
You call yourself amateur but the only real distinction with the so called Wildlife professional is monetary. You not only have to have dedication, you have the gift of a seeing eye and enquiring mind unlike some of us who had to nuture that over many years. I to used to think you had to range the World after countless species to become seasoned and gain deep insight, but have learned in reality that deep understanding of wildlife and its natural world can be afforded on a few hundred acres at home. Just look at Chris Ferris [pseudym],one of the leading naturalists of our time.
Well done mate!
Thanks guys – now I really am blushing!
Before I let all the fame go to my head, I need to remember that I’m not the only contributor here. The comments from all of you are really appreciated. I still maintain my (very) amateur status, but to have the input from people like you with far more experience of badgers and wildlife is incredibly valuable.
And Ghillie makes a very good point. The whole point of this site is that I’m not an expert, just someone with enthusiasm who is willing to learn. And everything on here takes place within walking distance of my house. Granted, I live in a pretty rural location, but it isn’t that special. My point is that anyone can do the sort of things that I do. It’s out there for anyone who wants it.
Right, time to get back to normal…
Brilliant news – well done!
Badgerman the world is knee deep in experts and specialists, many who manage to blind us with facts and bore us with their self importance but do nothing to fire our passions. Tales from the Woods however helps to make badgers and the beautiful woods of this land more user friendly.
Your ‘amateur’ blog not only conveys your enthusiasm and interest in the badgers and other wildlife in your local patch but it informs without being patronising and most of all it inspires. Iit helps us to recognise that nature is not just the realm of the rich, well educated expert who can travel to exotic places. Nature is there, right on our doorstep, there for the ordinary man/woman on the street to engage with. Thankyou – and enjoy the well deserved praise.
Congrats on the recognition Badgerman. You do post some interesting and entertaining blogs and the recognition is justified. Well done!
Thanks – I’m trying to keep up with you! I’m looking forward to seeing your videos…
Fantastic news Badgerman and well deserved. Beautifully written, informative and amusing, this site is a joy to read. Congratulations!
Wamest congratulations Badgerman, well deserved. Been in the Lakes so couldn’t comment sooner.

John
